Questbridge Scholarship - 2008

I know, i wonder if i should start some regular apps…

harvardprincess - I didn’t end up contacting either Yale or Questbridge. I’m hoping that once the early action applicants are processed, QB applicants will be also - so if my status isn’t right by the 15th, I’ll probably contact Yale.

I think I just screwed up very badly. I applied to my state school for their regular decision process, do you think that matters at all, because I know Questbridge said that they do not allow you to apply to any other schools during the match process?

They don’t allow you to apply to any other EA/ED schools. I’m pretty sure RD is fine.

Yea, it doesn’t matter.

Thanks

For those who applied to Stanford, did anyone receive any sort of confirmation from them, or something to check application status?

jaw117, no, i haven’t yet.

Did you? I once called the admission office regarding the time zone issue, and the lady sounded very annoyed. So I never called again.

I haven’t either. I know EA applicants got something in an email, though.

Yea, i was looking at the Stanford peeps getting notification for early action, we onlt have 15 days before decision and we still don’t have notification…

Same here I haven’t received a thing.
But I received an email from Questbridge saying Emory didn’t receive my financial aid information but i send it on Oct 31 and attached a piece of paper for Emory to sign if they did recieve it and I got that paper back in the mail like last week sometime. What should I do, should I call Emory , OMG this is really freaking me out. When I thought i was done, they pull a fast one on me. What do you guys think?

I never got anything from Stanford except for the email stating that they had downloaded my application.

Also worried about Stanford because my teachers sent the recommendations in letter sized envelopes, not the big ones that they asked for.

Matching Top Colleges,
Low-Income Students
By JIM CARLTON
November 15, 2007; Page B1

Last year, when Amherst College welcomed 473 new students to its idyllic campus, 10% of them came from QuestBridge.

But QuestBridge is no elite private school. It’s a nonprofit start-up in Palo Alto, Calif., that matches gifted, low-income students with 20 of the nation’s top colleges. In return, the schools – including Princeton, Yale, Stanford and Columbia – give scholarships to the students and pay QuestBridge for helping to diversify their student bodies…

Each college or university that uses the program pays QuestBridge $40,000 to $70,000 annually in recruiting fees. But QuestBridge says that only half of its $1.6 million annual budget comes from those fees. The other half comes from philanthropic groups, including the Goldman Sachs Foundation, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and the Edward Fein Foundation.

Awesomeness…hopefully that Stanford number climbs this year…

I saw people asking about the status of teachers’ recs for Yale pages before. Is there any update on it? cuz my status is ‘not received’ too. and I contacted QuestBridge. They said they already forwarded everything in. I’m a little concerned.

anyone has the same problem?

I wonder when the article said “acceptances” through Questbridge whether that means matches or acceptances in general…

One of my teachers who had a student get in Columbia last year through Questbridge said that they interviewed him and the student after they got matched which seems really weird.

that would be ■■■■■■■■…I would just not interview/…

lol ya I wouldn’t either

I emailed princeton, columbia, and stanford…no response :(

did anyone do notre dame here? any news?

Thanks for the link grtskt89, very encouraging. google2008, did you participate in last nights chat w/Amherst, DD said she talked to several interns she had met.

It’s finalists, I’m pretty sure. There were only about 100 matches, and there are more than that in the article.
