OK, this makes a lot more sense now. How are the classes listed on the high school transcript? is there any designation that they are college-level classes? If not, I think it would be appropriate to explain this in the additional information; but, better yet, your counselor should explain this in their counselor’s rec. You can also mention the time commitment in a factual manner, avoiding sounding like you are making excuses for a lack of ECs. The AOs will put the pieces together.
Im not sure how they are shown on the transcript, maybe OP can jump in and answer.
I agree it would be appropriate for the counselor to cover this (it might be in the school profile too), but also ok for OP to write a paragraph about each class in additional info too.
This doesn’t sound like dual enrollment then.
I wouldn’t write anything more. They can but these simply sound like hs classes - regardless of who taught by. The transcript should speak for itself.
Right, that’s what I said above:
It’s appropriate for both counselor and student to write about this because those classes are not in the HSs course guide (afaik) and are at an advanced level. Application readers appreciate this info which makes clear the rigor involved. I hope the school profile covers this but not sure, lots of school profiles are sub-par.
As an application reader, I have to look stuff up in curriculum guides/program of studies all the time and it’s better if I’m provided with the info in the app.
Sadly transcripts can’t speak for themselves. More detail is needed, not uncommonly.
Thanks as usual for the informed first hand insight.
OP given the importance of getting this “right” I would consider the experience level of those advising you.
I think these are two good reasons to explain in the additional info section. As I wrote before, my kid did this and got into a top Ivy. If you explain the rigor of your schedule, which demonstrates your interest in your area of study as well as work ethic, that is valuable info for admissions. Explaining lack of EC’s may just be implicit in the explanation of rigor.
But the detail needs to be succinct. “I took 2 courses - Course X and Course Y at ABC college as part of my HS academic schedule.”
What’s not needed is a song and dance. “College classes are harder than HS classes. Even though it says 3 hours, I had to do 9 hours of prep per week I had no lunch break so I had to stop at the Wendy’s drive through on my way to the college and after class I was so tired that I crashed at my GF’s apt.”
I agree what OP should say should be short and simple. I stated much earlier in the thread they should not write about the schedule as denoted in the OP.
Just reinforcing.
Always good, especially when we had a bit of a tangent there for awhile!
They were taken with college students at a college taught by a college professor. I was the only HS student there in fact. They simply aren’t HS classes imo
Yes there is designation but the lecture time isn’t. In regards to your second sentence, I’ve discussed it with my counselor and she would be willing but I think its 50/50 if she actually remembers to do so
Please see ski’s response. Simple and done.
This is the issue. It’s not really opinion. Lots of kids think they have classes above the norm. But the class is as it’s listed or identified by the school. I don’t personally see ‘opinion’ being relevant there.
I still don’t quite get it though - you took classes not at your high school but the college campus - and stayed at your gf house and not home as it was closer.
So these classes took place at college and were taught by college profs and only had college students. Then how would there not be a college transcript ?
That said, you were given guidance by others you can certainly use. And that’s why you came - to get guidance.
Good luck.
One thing that stood out was you said you were a no lifer. Do you have things outside of class to help fill up your application ? If not, you still have time, including this summer, to get a few things in to show well roundedness.
Good luck.
I DMed Mwfan1921 specific details. I can send you them to you to, if you would like.
One thing that stood out was you said you were a no lifer.
That was purely me being facetious. I’m don’t think well roundedness is an issue in my profile and my social life is quite healthy.
If you’ve got an answer / solution that satisfies you, that’s all that matters. It’s why you came.
Best of luck.
That’s not really what I was suggesting but I can see how my post kinda reads like I want to do that. I was only talking about mentioning class time where attendance is mandatory but isn’t mentioned on my transcript. The classes I’m referring to show up in my transcript without any mention of I took them.
I was thinking more:
I took 2 courses - Honors Course X and Course Y at ABC College as part of my HS academic schedule.
Course X’s class period was 1-2 PM Mon-Friday and 7-9 PM Tuesday & Thursday.
Course Y’s class period was 4-5:30 Tuesday and Friday
Would an explanation like this be concise and informative enough?

My opinion…this is not necessary. Many students do things outside of school hours without explaining the exact hours of attendance.
This is what I said:
This is what you said:
The last 2 paragraphs are unnecessary
