Your Cal grant will be renewed at your previous school. As a transfer
student, you will need to notify the Commission of your attendance at
UCLA starting Fall 2006 and have your Cal award transfered here. Once
your Cal award gets here, your Financial Aid award will be revised. The
Commission can be contacted at 1-888-224-7268.

but when i applied to UCSD and UCSB the cal grant did show up.

it says my university grant is something like 8300 dollars… 4k pell grant and then loans and workstudy, but if the cal grant is factored into that am i going to have to give up the university grant???

Okay, i still haven’t submitted my SIR yet (so i dont kno 100% sure about scholarships, but considering my EFC is 0 and parent contribution is 0 – i’m 24 :p, should i be happy?)

It seems like I got 2/3 in grants and 1/3 in loans. I heard others got 100% grants… What do you guys think?

For LA, you mean? Well, did you get both the University Grant + the Cal Grant at SD + SB? If so, then I think it would be the same case for LA. And plus, I really believe that the two grants are separate and you shouldn’t have to choose one over the other. How much is your Cal Grant for SD + SB?

^ That was meant for Malishka =)

Reachin4thestars, I think that’s pretty good considering others are getting 0 in FinAid. How did the ppl you know get 100% in grants? @_@

Hmm, I really wonder how much Cal Grant is. And what kind of scholarships did your friends get? I’m offered about 7,000 in loans, but I don’t want and don’t think I’m going to take out that much.

Yes at SD and SB i got the University grant for diffrent amounts, for example at SD it was 1990 and at SB it was 5250 and now at LA it is giving me a university grant of 8500.

But it is not showing the cal grant.

This is what UCLA looks like
Federal Pell Grant
$4,050
University Grant
$8500
Work Study
$2,000
Loans
$7,000

Its the same as for Reachin4thestars, except for i belive Reachin said they will reside on campus while i put off campus so they get a little bit mroe money overall, becasue the budget is like 23k for that.

Now i know i am eligible for Cal grant A, that is about 6141… or whatever the current tuition is for the year, so how will they factor this part into the total, will they lower the loan amount or the grant amount???

Reachin4Stars are you cal grant eligible??? If so do you have any idea how it will be factored into your total package???

Yeah, I’m very thankful for their generous grants and such. I know without them I would definitely turn down UCLA + Berkeley because my family and I would never be able to afford the education, and with my major I doubt in the future I’ll be a money-making machine

Malishka: Not sure, but I hope so. I just didn’t include any of my parents income information and claimed “independent status.” But while it worked for the pell grant at cc this year, they sent me a letter saying i wasn’t eligible. So, i’m not counting on it.

Reachin, do you qualify for independant status by federal guidelines?
You should be careful b/c if they see your no really independaant they can make you give back the money.

To tell you the truth, I’m not sure. I believe all you have to be is 24. There are other exceptions for those under 24, but the general rule is, at 24 or over, the thought is that parents aren’t generally expected to pay for their “children’s” education at that point.

no i cant, my brother provides more support for her than i do. but i give her most of the money.

i mean i will get financial aid, i am not worried.

she has cancer so usually they calculate her as 0 and then me as having to do 30% or something, or whatever that methedology is they use for federal aid
