• has completed 30 semester or 45 quarter UC-transferable units (including AP/IB/A-level) by the end of the summer 2016 term for fall 2017 admission;

http://www.admissions.uci.edu/applicants/ap_exams.html indicates that, for UCI purposes, a 3 on AP biology is worth 8 quarter units or 5.3 semester units, assuming that you have not taken duplicating courses (i.e. general biology in college).
