Mary, I actually emailed two different engineering departments. The first time was a year ago to the EE advisor (hoping S would follow my footsteps) to get advice on whether S should take MV Calc & Dif Eq with Chemistry at MC during his senior year since I didn’t see AP credits for CHEM135. The EE advisor provided insightful advice promptly even though S wasn’t an UMD sudent at the time (I was very impressed). That’s when I was told a 5 on AP Chemistry would take place CHEM135. Based on his recommendation, we decided to take all three classes in S’s high school, repeat math at UMD for better foundation, hope for a 5 in AP Chemistry so S never has to see Chemistry again! When S decided he likes ME better, I emailed the Director of Undergraduate Engineering Advisor to confirm all his AP credits. She explained that a 5 would give him CHEM271 which the engineering college substitutes for CHEM135. I didn’t inquire about CHEM136 since it’s not required for most engineering majors.
