^^ Then what you WILL have is a self-published book. And that self-published book will not have been available on Kindle for very long when you actually apply to college. So, your book is not going to boost your chances or matter at all.
Keep in mind that other student’s apply to HYPS with their works published in scientific journals, or nationally ranked publications – and your self-published work is going to be directly compared to theirs. For example, a girl I know had a play she wrote produced on Broadway when she was 17 years old, right before she applied to colleges. She ultimately went to Yale, but that’s the level of competition for school’s like HYPS.
