Questions about the campus

I am a parent of UR student - maybe there are some students out there who can chime in.

The central portion of the campus is fairly small (takes me about 15 minutes to walk from end to end, and there is a lot of open space around the perimeter, also apartments, a large pond in center, it is a bit hilly in places.

It is in a suburban area approx. 5 miles from downtown Richmond. There is a shuttle bus which runs back and forth to a University of Richmond building downtown(called UR downtown? I think) as a hub for community service, but not sure how often it runs. There are several small shopping centers a short distance off campus - my daughter usually hitches a ride with one of her friends with cars(she does not have a car).

The beds are not lofted unless you request and pay for it, so no stairs are generally needed for beds.

Much of the social life revolves around parties and the greek houses and on-campus apartments. There are also additional social events such as concerts and plays regularly on campus. My daughter is not a huge partier - she and her friends seem to get together for dinner and watch movies more than anything else.

I don’t know about the showers, but they did just build a new dorm and it probably has better handicapped access than some of the older ones.

The weather can get cold in the winter and there is sometimes snow or ice, but it doesn’t usually stick around long. Winter temps are usually in the 40’s (F), sometimes colder, sometimes warmer. Summer temps are very hot, 90’s + (F) and very humid. Will still be very hot in September. Spring and Fall months very pleasant.
