Quick Flonase Qu

Nasal steroids have been linked with increased intraocular pressure (glaucoma). There is also a soft link with early development of cataracts.

I was prescribed Flonase awhile ago too. When I went back to the drug store today to try to renew my prescription, I was surprised to discover it’s now available over the counter.

Yes, Flonase and Nasacort are both over the counter. I prefer Nasacort for my patients. It is much less watery and stays in the nose much better with no flowery fragrance.

@Creekland: There is a crazy membranous film which develops on my child’s eyeball, spreading from one corner to the other, until it becomes a movable, globulous thing. Think the term is pinguecula.

Thanks mnm & GirlChild. So far, so good here. Today is the best day I’ve had in quite a while. Time will tell if it continues or if it’s just another “come and go” bit, but I’m hopeful.

I’ll also switch to Nasacort next time (assuming there is a next time) as I’d prefer less watery.

I’m guessing we’ll have to watch for eye issues, but at the moment, the risk seems worth it. The ear was not a happy camper and not hearing well at school was definitely an annoyance.

Any chance it’s related to what’s probably submandibular lymph nodes on my right side feeling awful today? (“probably” because I’m using google to guess what’s off) That’s never happened before, but it’s just one day (totally brand new problem), so I’ve no idea how important it is. It’s only annoying to touch - even lightly - not just going about life. I forget about it when not touching it.

Yes, definitely do not touch that. I would think the confluence of some things being fought by the body are why you are seeing both the lymph node soreness and the awful fluid behind the ear. If the Flonase does not list contraindications with cold medicines, you might want to start in on one. At least on some zinc tablets and low level vitamin D.

Glad you’re (mostly) feeling better.

Hmm, still no typical signs of anything being fought by the body (fever, stuffiness, tired, etc). But the lymph node area is more sore this morning than it was yesterday.

Since the ear is back into the easily tolerable range, I’ll lay off the Flonase for a little bit and see what happens.

Besides, rather than bonus points for the pulse I hear going away (left ear again), it’s gotten louder. Fortunately, noise masks that one.

There are always pros and cons to aging, no? Health-wise I think it’s mostly cons. But as long as things stay tolerable, that’s a plus.

Using a neti pot (with a saline solution made from distilled water, not tap water!) should ease the dryness in your nose. I know this is a different issue, but I have found the neti pot much more helpful than Flonase for my indoor allergies and use one all winter long.
