Racial diversity at Penn State?

I don’t see that the OP ever mentioned religion. You brought it up in your post about the many “conservative racist hicks and rednecks” in State College. It seemed as if you were implying that there was a lack of religious diversity (in addition to racial diversity) and perhaps intolerance on campus. I’m sure you will explain that was not your intention, so please explain what your intention was in bringing up the fact that PSU has a religious building.

I assumed Xtreme wanted to mention the Pasquerilla Center but couldn’t find a link, which was provided by one of us. And a multi-cultural/spiritual center points to a type of diversity, so that’s not completely off-thread. I do wonder why someone who doesn’t seem to be a fan of the university would be getting ready to come here as a freshman, but everyone has their reasons.

That is a generous interpretation considering the general tone of the post.

There is a lot of room between “worshipping” a university and attacking it without substantiation.

If you simply said “PSU is in the middle of nowhere and in a very white state - it’s never going to be as diverse as some other universities” I would agree with you. When I went there it was blindingly white and it may be better now, but you can’t compare it with say, NYU, if you want a truly diverse student body.

But as others have said, attitudes and acceptance are as important as the % of students that are of different cultures, etc. When you assert that the town is “full of conservative racist hicks” that is out of left field and absurd. People here, who know the town, who have lived there, have disagreed with that assertion. Not the same thing as “worship” at all.

@1moremom – I know. But I’ve been eating chocolate this morning so I’m feeling very generous! Like you, I am puzzled by Xtreme’s post history but life is full of puzzles. eats another chunk of Mother’s Day chocolate

and I spent the last hour at the vet with my sick dog so perhaps I am a little cranky. ;)

greenbutton and 1moremore - thanks for giving me a morning chuckle!!! :)

Creepy Valley = white trash, hick, redneck, inbred Sandusky/Pedterno football cultists

Xtreme Your comment seems similar to top comment on the youtube video. Did you copy paste it ? Those are just PSU haters. We (prospective students) should not be listening to them.

Nope, never saw that video and I wouldn’t go that far…
