I just talked to my H. He said that you can do it without a sump but they have to drill a hole in your floor or foundation. We have a sump but it has never actually worked, so we replaced the pump (H did that himself) in order to use the sump pump instead of a floor hole.
We donāt have a sump pump, so they had to drill a hole into our foundation to install the radon remediation. Iāll admit that drilling into the foundation made me nervous, but there have been no negative consequences in the past 24 years.
Thank you for the sump pump explanation. I can say with 100% certainty that my husband would not allow one to be installed at our house.
When our neighbors sold their house, the buyers asked for radon testing. This was done, and it was positive. But they all agreed to get a second opinionā¦and it was way negative.
They actually drilled two holes into my foundation, because the initial venting from the first hole did not lower the radon number enough. So they ended up putting in two vents that joined to a fan blowing outside. I had one of the few dry basements on the block - never had water, never needed a sump pump, almost all my neighbors did. I was happy to be leaving the house after them making these two holes - hopefully they did not cause water issues for the new owners.
