Don’t worry about the BruinCard photo. You can make your BruinCard when you go to Orientation. You will take your photo there.

Don’t worry about the BruinCard photo. You can make your BruinCard when you go to Orientation. You will take your photo there.

so then for the housing photo, can i just use basically any photo of myself? (as long as its clear, with a relatively plain background). Is it only for your roommates to see when they get assigned to a room?

No. It’s for your BruinCard.

sorry if i sound really stupid right now, but can you clarify what the photo on the housing app is for?

??? so is it for your card? or can you take another photo at orientation?

it IS for your card.
if you send in a picture, you’ll get your card by mail and have it by orientation (a very good thing, but if you don’t have one it’s not the end of the world… just find other ppl to swipe the doors open for you)
if you wait til orientation, you’ll take your bruincard picture the first day or something, and then get your card.
i’d say just pony up the $6 and get it done now. you’ll avoid a lot of hassle and confusion at orientation. one less thing to worry about.

Ay recommendations on the best plan to getting a single room and the most private bathroom possible for a freshman female?

Thanks!!

to get a single you need to have some medical condition w/ a doctors note. haha maybe you can get your doctor to write you a fake one ;)!

So basically, not a snowball’s chance in hell.
I heard only like 4% or so get singles.

pretty much what charisma said. lol. most incoming freshmen are looking at being placed in triples so, i’d pretty much get used to that idea and then, IF you get placed in a double, you’re one lucky duck.

I confirmed with a housing director that for our year, ~80-85% were in triples. Since Sproul WILL NOT BE OPENING THIS YEAR, they move the extra beds and convert doubles into triples.

So I guess it will be 90% triples for incoming freshmen.

The photo on the housing app is NOT for the BruinCard. The photo requested on your MyUCLA homepage is for the BruinCard. Therefore, the housing one is not even mandatory. And no, your roommates don’t get to see it.

why is it advised to not do pre med? lol

No one is discouraging anyone from following the pre-medicine route. The classes required are not 100% impossible to complete.

However, if you expect an extremely social life, then don’t bet on that. You will need 3.6-3.7+ to be considered for a good medical school.

In another illustration, if you get a C or lower in any class, people will consider you as “screwed” for medical school.

Incoming Premeds are presented with these horror stories, but not one says you are “not advised” to follow the path.

Over 50% stick with the plan. Just make sure you have fallbacks in case you don’t get accepted.

This is probably dorky but…

my name is kind of common.

Let’s say it’s…Stephanie Hernandez (last name is fake). So I tried many combos of underscores and such, and the only available one that I took for my username was

stephhernandez

Is that really unprofessional if I use it (stephhernandez@ucla.edu) for school and job applications?

And also

I filled out the housing application before my SIR. Does that mean it didn’t really happen? Should I do it again now that I’ve completed my SIR?

I think stephhernandez is indeed unprofessional-sounding. Why not just insert your middle initial (e.g. stephanieahernandez) instead?

It didn’t fit.

I guess I made my first big mistake in college.

frown

Hello Hermione! Don’t fret just yet. You can still create an alias email address and you will be able to send and receive it from the alias email address. So create your new alias address. Open up a gmail account. Forward all of your email from UCLA webmail account to your alias account. Set up the additional alias account to your gmail through the account settings option. It’ll ask you to verify this. Voila! It should work.

or you can just use yahoo =)

because yeah, i messed up my e-mail too

Oh come on, your e-mail address (which isn’t something stupid like partyforever@ucla.edu) isn’t going to brand you as some immature kid. Most (i.e. normal) people aren’t going to give a damn what your address is. At worst, they might be slightly annoyed if they need to type in a long address all the time. If this is what makes or breaks your future prospects that means you’ve got other problems.
