I can’t speak about Russian in particular, but generally speaking, cross-registration is extremely easy. The campuses are literally set up for it.

Registration happens at the same time across the schools, so you register for all of your classes in the same place and everything is processed similarly. No problems with grades because there are no mandatory school-wide curves + we all get letter grades, which can be plugged in as needed to each school’s GPA system. There are rules re: quantity of off-campus courses, and those vary from school to school. In my experience, they were flexible. When I needed an off-campus course, I was able to take one. In total, I cross-registered for half of my courses, and took multiple classes on each of the 5Cs.

The only thing I ever really paid special attention to was location/timing. Getting from the far end of Pomona to the far end of HMC in 10min would have been problematic without a bike, but when a situation like that came up (only once for me), I just cleared things through the professors. Worked out alright.

I’ve heard that cross-registration may be getting more difficult as professors become more serious about class-size caps (argh the rankings game), but I’m not around to verify this. As of 2007 graduation, I found it remarkably simple. Hopefully some current students can weigh in. Either way, the actual procedure of cross-registering is identical to that of regular registration.

Good luck :)
