GSP for life!

hey… i am so confused.

why did some of you already get “accepted” did you apply ED? if you did regular decision… the deadline is in january… so some of you must have sent it in early? so which deadline???

i really want NYU… so should i apply now? (i’ll accept anything… even the GSP)

My brother, who is now a junior at NYU in the college of arts and sciences and has his associates from NYU from his first two years there, applied to NYU for the college of arts and sciences to be a journalism major. He got into the GSP program and was dissapointed because he didn’t want to be in the “sped” NYU program and was going to go to another college he had been accepted to instead. My mother convinced him to go to the interview to atleast see what it is about and we went and it was a group interview and he the guy talked to everyone in the group and asked what there majors were and a little about them. He also explained that the GSP program is for students that maybe don’t have a 4.0 GPA and 1400 out of 1600 SAT scores but the school really wants them so they accept them into a program where they get there liberal arts out of the way the first two years and have to maintain a minimal GPA and then in the case of the college of arts and sciences, are guaranteed admission if they maintain that GPA. I think in my brother’s case it was his writing that got him in. He decided to enroll and loves it. It really isn’t not a program that seperates you from the rest of the school and it is actually really nice in some ways because you really get to spend your junior and senior year emersed in your major. And I’ll add that the GSP is also a little bit smaller classes with more personal attention and my brother loved it.

Hope that helped anybody considering it! Good luck!

Has anyone from regular decision gotten in GSP yet this year? I noticed in 2005 at the beginning of this thread people were finding out in early Feb… so its still a little early. But if anyone’s gotten in so far this year, could you post your stats? Thanks!

is GSP only offered for people who apply for CAS? What about Stern?
Also, do EDs get offered GSP?

Prehistoric - GSP is typically for CAS however I did have a friend who was accepted to GSP after applying ED to Stern.

I applied RD and submitted my application through the Common App. I think it was on 12/31, and I got into GSP. I got the letter on Thursday.

any GSP stern track, cause i havent seen one yet and im a little freaked out about it

I think I heard about a few stern/GSP people last year, or maybe in the ED thread this year. I don’t think it’s that common though, more CAS than Stern people are put into GSP, from what I’ve heard.

Unweighted GPA - 3.6 (6 AP’s, 12 Honors)
SATI: 1870 –> 1230 cr&math
SATII: Chinese: 780, Math IC: 720, Math IIC: 680

My EC’s are my strength… I really brought out the fact I’m trilingual: I published a few articles in Chinese national newspaper, nationally recognized for organizing English classes to teach orphans, founded a strings quartet group, trilingual interpreter for this small company in China, work 4 jobs simultaneously…

I applied for Steinhardt for communication

My stats are really not great, but what are my chances for GSP?

Someone was asking about the stats of someone accepted? I found out early February. It was a little bit of a disappointment, and after reading this thread I wish I didn’t apply to CAS. But hey, I’m still waiting on 7 other schools, and it looks to me like this will be a fine fallback.

Anyways, my stats:
3.7 GPA unweighted/ 4.2 GPA weighted
SATS: 2000 total (660 math, 640 english, 700 writing)
SAT Subjects: 610 US Hist (ouch), 700 Literature
5 or 6 AP classes (can’t think right now; rest are honors)
Our school doesn’t rank… but top 50

ECs:
ASB/Leadership 4 years
Editor in Chief of School Newspaper
Key Club 4 years
Drama/Theatre 3 years

good luck guys. If you and I choose to accept, I guess I’ll see you there.

do GSP, CAS, Stern, etc. students share the same living quarters?

Yeah, they live among all other undergraduates.

My 3.5 unweighted GPA sounds terrible compared to so many here, especially since I applied to Stern…

It’s wierd, because it seems a lot of people have high GPAs but low SATs, which is opposite for me; not-so-strong GPA, high SAT (2210). Oh well.

i applied RD and got an invite to go GSP…not sure if going; have to wait to hear back from other colleges

where is my invite? =(

Hey so this may have been answered, but I applied ED to Stern and I haven’t received a GSP packet yet…

Does this mean I can only be rejected or accepted or can I still be accepted to GSP??? Thanks a lot!

de la noche, Early Decision letters were out two and a half months ago. You’re just NOW inquiring about not receiving yours??

dammit, i meant RD sorry… i am stupid… so just pretend I said regular decision

gsp packets can come as late as the end of march
