Re-taking Junior Year; is it worth it for getting into top colleges (ivy)?

This thread just screams entitlement.

What makes you think you ought to have the chance to retake your junior year when thousands of other applicants only have one shot and perform well? Do you think that is fair to the others?

You need to look at reality here and notice that just because you compare yourself to CC Ivy League stat threads does not make it paint an accurate picture of your admissions chances.

Your chances are slim to none, and honestly with your attitude towards other posters and ignorance towards other high caliber non-top 20 schools means you’re not the right fit for any of those schools.

You need to focus on your junior year and finish strong. Getting a 5 on the AP Stats exam will do nothing because the schools you’re aiming for do not give weight to AP exams in the admissions process. At all.

If you can’t seems to be able to compete at a “competitive public”, you do not merit admission in the slightest to these institutions.

Make sure you have safeties when you start applying and find some match schools. Good luck.

I don’t care whether I have the ability to re-take my junior year at a boarding school; I care only for myself, and not others.

In that case, I’m outta here.

think of the lost wages on the other end in addition to the cost of the extra year

@OP
My situation was significantly different from yours.
First, I actually had a legitimate excuse. One of my best friends died during my junior year, and the trauma wrecked my grades. Second, I was a straight A student for all four years of high school EXCEPT for that one semester. I ended up getting B’s in only two classes for junior year, and it wasn’t enough to bring my gpa down. For one class I got a B in (BC calculus), I got a teacher recommendation from and he knew that I was very intelligent and wrote me an excellent LOR. I also got a 102% in his multivariable class senior year first semester, which proved that my slack really was because of my trauma. My guidance counselor also wrote an extensive explanation in her LOR and I also wrote a whole essay about the situation. This is specifically why I said “unless you had an excuse” in my previous response. Also, I floored senior year with straight A+s 1st semester, and my extracurriculars were international/state level for competitive activities. I also had a 2400 and 800s for subject tests that made up for my lackluster grades junior year (I got 800 on both BioE/M to compensate for the B in ap bio junior year).

I had an excuse for my mistakes, but I still recovered. You are past the point of no return. FOR IVY LEAGUE COLLEGES HOWEVER. You could probably easily get into those colleges that you mentioned up there^. I apologize if I was being a little critical, your grades and extracurriculars aren’t bad by any means, just in comparison to applicants for ivy league colleges. You could probably even aim a little higher. And you shouldn’t take my word for it. Apply anyway, you might get lucky. If your essays show character and if you can somehow compensate for your low grades, you should take the shot because you have nothing to lose.

Also, your mentality of “not caring for others” clashes with your purely service-oriented extracurriculars. And you seem to think that you’re entitled to things that you’re not. You should fix those things before you even think about applying to college; your inhumanity will show very clearly through your essays, whether you like it or not.

midwestlaxer, you scream entitlement.

And the colleges you’re looking at are deaf to it.

Have fun with your rejections next winter/spring.

The premise of your post – that you can transfer to Deerfield or Andover or a similar academic high school seems flawed. The application deadline at Deerfiled for example is January 15. It is a very competitive prep school. Andover’s is Feb. 1. It too is very competitive.

Well… if the colleges were deaf to his screams of entitlement, he might have a chance. But I see where you were going with it
Gratz on post 300

thanks schlaag! glad ucwatididthere!

and what makes you worthy to talk to me like that?

hello midwestlaxer

i do not feel as if your college chances for (UPENN was it?) are looking well. since your junior year was rather terrible

and you can forget about the rest of your college list except for USC unless your ECs and TEST scores are out of this world

which i highly doubt

I worked for my EC’s, and yes, I consider them unique

please tell me you did not do community service with your

“i only care about myself” attitude

You’re ridiculous

Do you think about others when you’re trying to figure out ways to better your chances of getting into specific colleges? Especially when you’re in my situation? I think not.

you have no one to blame but yourself for you terrible situation

You should just get off my thread.

Are you saying that you only participated in your ECs so as to beef up your college apps? If that’s the case, adcoms can see right through that/you.
