@hsgal83846 Thank you for the suggestion, but I thing VT is too big for me. UMich is pushing it. I do really like Virginia though, so I’ll look into it.
@MistySteel27 Thank you for the insight. I have looked at accelerated programs, but honestly, I want to go to WashU or Duke for DPT school. Undergrad I am less concerned about prestige/name. I just want to have a strong foundation in PT so that I can do well in DPT school & as a physical therapist.
@hsgal83846 Based on conversations with my college councelor and friends at UofR, Richmond is definitely a target for me, but thank you. I did look at Clemson, but I think it may be overwhelmingly large. Do you have any other suggestions? Good luck to you too!
To be honest, even if you got into one of your reach schools, you shouldn’t go if you want to get into a DPT program. Based upon you grades and test scores, the last thing that you want is to be in your prerequisite classes with a bunch of pre med and engineering students.
For example, the University of Wisconsin would be similar to UMich and UVA. Chem 103 would be one of the classes that you would have to take as a DPT prerequisite. Here is the grade distribution. Note, UW does not have +/- but the does have two intermediate grades AB(3.5) and BC(2.5).
A: 25.5%
AB: 11.1%
B: 28.2%
BC: 9.8%
C: 16.3%
D 6.3%
F: 1.3%
Average 2.942
Michigan besides chemistry lots of their classes are smaller then people think. My son’s calc 2 class had like 25 kids in it. Anyway, Michigan is a very hard school. All your core classes are taken with everyone together. After first semester many kids change their chosen profession. Keep in mind that LSA has an avg 3.9 unweighted and 32-35 ACT…It’s not an easy school but none of your choices are.
Honestly, I would start to look at more schools that might fit your profile better and add safely schools that you would enjoy going to. Very few students get into their first choice of schools and why you make a list. Make sure it’s school that you would not have a problem with going to and that you can cleanly afford.
Virginia Tech has fewer undergraduates than Michigan- about 27,000 at VT and about 30,000 at Michigan. I think Virginia Tech is a match for you, UVA is a reach.
