Real estate market

Good for you! My aunt transferred the door tick marks to a long strip of paper.

@SouthFloridaMom9 – I realize this may seem extreme…but could you pry the piece of molding off, replace and paint? Granted, not effortless, but not terribly expensive. (Famous last words…)

Thank you @colorado_mom and @CT1417! Sounds silly but these little things are important. CT - prying the molding off is exactly something I would do (LOL). But I think I’m going to have my builder give me a couple of long pieces of wood and maybe we’ll copy the marks there.

I’m glad other CCers ‘get’ it!

Maybe a folding ruler would be great and you could write date and kids’ initials and make the tick marks.

I would so replace the moulding around the door. Not hard, and you need to repaint it anyway.

Take a picture… with your phone. Did you mention where you are moving to? Did you buy a place yet?

@NJres . . . ha ha, that’s what I’ve been doing with so much of my stuff. Taking a pic on my phone and then letting it go. Refreshing actually.

We are moving to central Florida, close to UF.

We’re in the situation you were in last year, @SouthFloridaMom9 . My husband wants to sell our house in MA and buy a farm(!!) somewhere else in New England. The market here, especially in our town, is excellent, with bidding wars and all that, but our daughter graduates from Wellesley College next spring, and I’d love to be able to house visiting family(and not have to stay in a hotel ourselves) for her graduation. I know it makes sense to sell, because the housing bubble won’t last, but I really wish I had more time.

@Massmomm - don’t know your situation with your house, but if you can wait to sell that’s what I’d do.

Looking back, we have had our house on the market several times, often with me kvetching about how ridiculously expensive it is where I live to not have exactly what I want, etc. But now I’m very grateful that we waited to sell. I can see, with the benefit of hindsight, that it was right to stay here and see it through to when both the kids were done with this chapter of their lives.

So if you want to stay in MA, and can reasonably afford it for now, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. Of course there’s always the chance that there’s another “bubble.” It was sickening to see our house value sink almost in half back in '08 (or somewhere around there).

Wishing you peace and clarity. It’s not easy.

@massmomm Rent a house for the grad off vrbo or airbnb and grab ahold of that housing bubble to sell now.

I’m with doschicos. Carpe diem! (You may really regret it if you don’t.)

Why didn’t I remember how tough it is to move?!?

Ho lee crap!
