So? its only $150/mo for the bridge vs $2000/room.
??
Hacker house? what do you mean? The house I have is a normal house. Not every room is a suite, but not every house in the valley has a suite for every room either.
Post #761, I’m sure @busdriver didn’t mean your house. I noticed only in expensive areas.
Rent is " only" $2000?
What’s the mortgage?
busdriver,
my other s lives with a few roommates in a house in Menlo Park, and one of the roommates is getting married/moving out. I can inquire if its already re-rented.
What’s a hacker house?
Oh, and forgot to mention, older s mowed the part of his lawn that has grass (its a sloped/terraced yard). Oh, de did it with one arm in a sling.
Thanks for asking, jym, he might be interested in Menlo Park, as it is close. However, he has to get the job first…we’re anxiously waiting to hear! He seems much more relaxed about it than I am. I really want him to get this job.
A hacker house is definitely not what artlover’s houses are like. It’s a big house that has several people in each bedroom. It’s filled with techies who spend their time programming and doing tech projects—ie hacking. I’d heard some of them have a “mom” there, taking care of things like cleaning and cooking.
emerald, I don’t know what the mortgages are, but if you’re renting out 10 bedrooms at $2K/month, you’re making some big bucks! I’m sure these are really costly houses, in those areas.
I should kick myself not buying that “west side” Menlo Park house. But with 36 bidders, my chances are slim to none, nevertheless, the listing broker was a friend, I just did not come to the plate.
You should smack yourself in the head, for not buying that house, especially with the broker being a friend! However, you can’t change the past, so just try not to think about it.
Busdriver, my son rented a room in a MV condo. It rented by the month. The two small bedrooms shared a bath, the master bedroom had its own bath. The corporation has properties in Pal Alto and other places. All furnished.
Good luck to your son.
Thanks, bookworm, he needs the luck. Furnished sounds really good, as he doesn’t have a heck of a lot. I wish I had some rentals in Palo Alto and Mountain View! Could retire a couple of years earlier.
If he is (hopefully) going to work for the big employer in MV, they typically put you up in corporate housing for up to a few months while you find housing. And they have a service that helps with that (finding housing) as well. And they have a great transportation system between locations and around the communities. so a car isn’t an absolute necessity, though definitely helpful.
That would make it awfully easy, but actually, it would be a mid size employer, right next to the big employer. So not sure if those services would be available. It would be great to avoid having a car. But then again, I’ll just have to wait and hope, for now.
Lovely. Just heard there was a minor earthquake east of SF (in the Concord area, across the bay, more inland). Please, no more.
EQ in CA is probably less dangerous than gas explosion in NYC apartment.
Both are awful, but one is more of a fluke than the other!
Minor earthquakes are nothing for Californians. Kids have been taught since kindergarten how to deal with them. Just make you have water. I just purchased our yearly earthquake water. The old bottles became water to wash things unless the plastic water broke and one did. Good thing we got new water.
So D1 called today and said that she was going to an Open House at the place she offered and was accepted to buy. I asked why they were still having an open house. She said that even though her offer had been accepted, because no money had been paid yet, it was not a contract. I understand that, but she offered full, they accepted, she has been pre-approved by her bank. It was a verbal contract.
I have offered and bought property 4 times in my life. That would have been the case. Apparently not these days. She is very concerned because the open house was packed.
BTW, my D1 contacted her broker to tell the listing broker that she would be going to the open house. This was to assure every one that there where no second thoughts. My D was going to continue decorating
Ideas.
But now she is concerned given the level of interest in the open house. She says Manhattan real estate is crazy.
Real estate deals are not binding unless they are in writing. There is no such thing as an enforceable verbal contract.
I would advise your D to pay whatever consideration supports the real estate contract in NY (option fee, escrow deposit) so that she has an enforceable contract, subject only to conditions contained in the contract.
