They have downhill skiing at Loup Loup outside of Twisp. My H & D go there.
Lots of snowshoeing trails also, a few start off at the Mazama Country inn.
Weve never stayed at Sun Mountain, but I did use their restroom this summer when we were at Patterson Lake & I had been diligently drinking liters of water at Ds insistence.
I was afraid I was going to be underdressed, but I saw that the extras for * Sons of Anarchy* were there, so I relaxed.
Sun Mountain is probably the best place for a lesson, but it is pretty easy, especially if you are going to be touring, not skating. Winthrop Mountain Sports is a good place to rent stuff, and find out about events & lessons, although Sally & Don Portman may still be teaching at Sun Mountain.

There are also some nice lots for sale ( some with nice homes on them) on the Lost River Rd.
Lost River Winery btw, is fantastic.

Notelling, 1.5 million for shacks?

Are prices in Glendale and Pasadena crazy too?

I would not call our old house a shack, but it was not a mansion, either. I have. I have no idea how any entry level buyers can afford these prices in most of LA area.

We have the tech people and the foreigners buying here in Nor Cal. Who is buying in LA?

In our old area, tech people and contract employees, largely.

Ironically, person who bought our house was previously with Microsoft. And from Washington.

nottelling, it is depressing to think that for us, downsizing in sq footage and upsizing in lot size will be considerably more expensive than our large home on a small but golf course lot.

We have looked into buying a lot and building a home but lots in our preferred area are very difficult to find. I found a 4 bedroom 2000 sq ft home on an acre lot. The house was a total wreck, it looked like it was abandoned. A tear down for sure. The price? 500k. I am predicting it will be sold soon as the other homes in the area are in the
800k - 1 million+ range.

Here’s an example of what $1.2m will get you in Pasadena. A 1800 sq ft fixer-upper on a nice size lot.

Glendale may be more reasonable

DS and fiancee’ are beginning to look at condos or very small (as in very small!) houses in Nor Cal. The real estate is ridiculous. Think ridiculous. Then think more ridiculous and then add a bunch of zeros. All offers, of which there are multiple, are above list, many are cash. And most need work. Not all, but most.

Notelling, the lot is nice. :)

I should have lived in Pasadena. Wow.

This is adorable. All are selling above list. Whoever staged this did a fabulous job! <a href=“170 Fairmount St, San Francisco, CA 94131 | Trulia”>170 Fairmount St, San Francisco, CA 94131 | Trulia;

I was fascinated about staging process after watching these real estate shows for years… My realtor made a huge deal about it. She was right. I have noticed houses in CA are often staged much more than many of houses we have seen in WA. She said the trend got huge about 3-4 years ago.

We did not hire a staging company, but did every tip they recommend. And a massive declutter. Made a difference.

A big corporation is moving their headquarters here (North Texas) from California. I am by no means representing this area as any kind of utopia, but I think the people moving here with the company are, on the one hand, horrified by the hot weather and less beautiful environs (though in fairness there are some very lovely areas), but blown away by the cost of living and good schools in certain districts. 800K here buys you a literal mansion in the burbs, with every bell and whistle, pool and spa if you want one, outdoor kitchen, the works. Many beautiful planned communities with water parks, community pools. and outdoor theaters for entertainment and movie nights, community cafe, gated and secure, etc. What they think of the trade off remains to be seen, but I can see the allure for young professionals just starting their families.

Here’s what you get in Pacific Palisades for $1.6m (to be fair it is being sold as a tear down)

Texas is not appealing to me. I kind of like the Pacific Palisades house. A little pricey. :)

What do you think of the Fairmount st one? It was officially a condo b/c its attached to the property next door, with a $250 or so HOA fee on top of the mortgage.

Jym626, I dont know that area. The photos look fantastic. Well staged house.
The place looks great.

If your son is considering this place, you shouldn’t post it.

I think I would rather live there than Texas . :)

No they didnt bid on that property, but 3 of their work colleagues did. It s already under contract. This one was cute but had its own quirks-- like being behind another house for one. I just loved the furniture!

Did any of the work colleagues get the place?

Dont have a clue. I think there were 5 bids.
