They won’t know until after May 1 if there is extra space in the class, so there is no need to rush things. I would prepare a thoughtful letter explaining why Midd is your first choice (and stressing that you would attend if admitted), and send it along with any other awards, good grades, artwork, etc.

In the end, it mostly depends on who doesn’t attend and who does. For example, Midd needs individuals who play all the instruments needed for an orchestra (or voices for a choir, actors for plays, quaterbacks for football, people interested in astronomy, etc.). They admit one or two of each to ensure that the class is diverse and all needs are met. If both of the oboe players that were admitted decide not to attend, then they will need to look through those on the waitlist for another oboe player–one that they know will attend if offered a spot. What makes you unique at Midd? There must have been something that you had to offer for you to be placed on the waitlist. Find your hook and STRESS it in your letter to them.

Good luck!
