Realistic list for Strong Psychology Program in an Urban Setting? [CA resident, 3.56 GPA, 3.67 for UC]

How interesting about Temple. How did we miss this school? Thanks for all the suggestions. We will add some of these schools to the list. Thank you for taking the time!

Note that you missed the “priority deadline.” Applications to Loyola–Chicago remain open on a rolling basis.

Edited: if her UC GPA capped weighted is 3.67 then UCR would be a Match for Anthropology and Sociology while UCSC would be a High Match.

If she applied for Psychology at these 2 campuses, more likely both High Match schools.

UC capped weighted GPA is 3.67. Thank you!

More a high match. I’d guess a waitlist is quite plausible (that’s what my S23 got with 3.7UW/3.9W/5 APs, albeit more limited ECs).

The deadline for Utah merit was Dec 1. She would have had a decent chance at WUE, but later applicants tend to miss out on merit.

Some schools that produced a fair number of students who went on to earn doctorates in psychology and are in more urban locations include:

  • Arizona State
  • DePaul (IL)
  • Loyola Chicago (IL)
  • Marquette (WI)
  • Saint Louis (MO)
  • U. of Arizona
  • U. of Cincinnati (OH)
  • U. of Houston (TX)
  • U. of Utah

Where did you find this doctorate information? My daughter is planning to major in psychology with the intention of grad school. She likes several schools she’s already been admitted too and still has a few more to hear back from. I am trying to figure out how she will narrow down her options. We do have some admitted student visits planned so hopefully that will help.

@Jules5, if you look at this website you can narrow down the options including by field where the doctorate was earned: Baccalaureate origins of doctoral recipients

I usually just look at doctorates received between 2000-2018 (there’s a box on the top left that lets you limit the dates), but there are various filters you can use. Wishing your daughter the best of luck as she makes this decision!
