@Theoden. Thanks for putting together these links for me. Ohio Wesleyan is a relatively easy drive for us, so I think we’ll take a look at it. I’ll see if ds is interested in either of the other two.
@CaliMex. Thanks for your thoughts. I’ll take a look. WPI has a COA of $72K…we’d need about $40K in merit aid to bring it into budget, though.
You can also look into Ohio scholarships that can be used at private schools in Ohio. We were in a different state but my daughter got about $10k in state merit/resident aid. There were also a lot of local scholarship like Pepsi and Elks and small businesses that could only be used in Florida. She didn’t get any of those but others did. It is scary to look at that $52k private school cost (6 years ago for her), but we just started whittling it down with any kind of aid we could find.
Don’t skip the NPCs just because you won’t qualify for need-based aid. Many of the NPCs will also estimate merit awards for you.
@Theoden i would be careful posting about that Colby offer. All colleges that say they offer a particular discount based on income also say, in the fine print, that the family’s savings come into account. If a family has considerable savings, they will not get that discount. It’s not as simple as $150k income and you pay $15k. See the “with assets typical for that range” comment in their info.
@homerdog Good point. I didn’t see the fine print. @FlameHopper If you look at Colby, make you read the fine print.
@FlameHopper Lot’s of the CTLC schools have similar packages
Allegheny is offering up to 37K in merit: https://sites.allegheny.edu/finaid/types-of-aid/
