Really accomplished people

Yes, compared to lazy bums like me whose small accomplishments are exercising to lose belly fat and having gone to travels with good foods, everyone will sound accomplished. Lol

My wife says I am accomplished at finding good things to watch on Amazon Prime.

And I am very talented in finding good things to eat!

My totally unscientific theory about highly accomplished people is that a lot of them are both brilliant and extroverted. YI don’t mean that they are social extroverts, just that they are energized by engaging with the outside world, and that their intellects allow them to absorb new information and apply it quickly.

In this time of increasing emphasis on specialization, these highly diversified and accomplished “Renaissance” people stand out. The ones I know are smart, motivated, persistent and perhaps, most of all, curious and restless with the status quo; they want to learn more and are often self-taught in some areas.

Also, some areas of strength overlap, though they would be categorized differently. There is a lot of discussion about a correlation between musicianship and engineering aptitude, for example.

My hat is off to these people. Back to another CC thread for me.

Sub-clinical hypomania. Unfortunately for the rest of us, it is genetic. it is the ability to take on a task with a lot of energy and be happy about it.

My mom’s cousin was very talented in everything he tried. He grew poor up on a ranch, played professional baseball, then started a company that became relatively well known. Somewhere along the way he finished a law degree. His daughter and her husband started a national retail chain. Plus, going to a family event on that side of the family is like walking into a photo shoot full of models. One of them was a Miss Universe contestant. Another was a successful singer. I feel like Sméagol the few times we got together.

Our side did not get any of it except maybe the happiness part. I like my sleep and by 2pm am ready for the workday to end.

We speak of all folks being created equal, and we certainly should all have equal rights and opportunities…but face it, we haven’t all been given equal talent, brains and drive. I was watching a DI women’s basketball game and the commentators were talking about how one of the starters, on a ranked team, wants to be a neurosurgeon.

What I have personally never had is the energy. I’ve had a decent career and have raised three great kids…but I certainly didn’t have the energy for other major activities.

That point is right on the nose.

@Magnetron “Plus, going to a family event on that side of the family is like walking into a photo shoot full of models”. Now that’s just not FAIR!
