<p>No the private count maximum is 10. UC and CSU I can apply as many as I want.</p>
<p>Many schools only recommend applying to 7 - 9 schools total. A couple of safeties, 3 -4 matches, a couple of reaches. </p>
<p>I think you have a great list, particularly when you add UCs and CSUs. I think you should research the schools you know about and pare the list down, then fill in where needed. If you haven’ visited any schools, do that now to see what kind of school you like. Big vs small, urban vs rural, etc. </p>
<p>10 privates PLUS applications to UCs and CSUs is overkill, IMO.</p>
<p>Remember to have a very frank discussion with your parents about cost. Some parents say “don’t worry about it” then when they see a $50,000/year price tag, they choke on their coffee.</p>
<p>I did little research on the schools. All of them have some form of what I want to major in. and most of them are in southern california near LA. So I should be set?</p>
<p>So far I don’t have a reach school… What should I do?</p>
<p>Whitman is a reach, as is Scripps. UCSD would be a reach that you have some chance at. </p>
<p>What do your parents say about college? Are they leaving it entirely to you? Or do they have opinions about geography, state vs private, distance from home, cost, etc? I think it’s time to sit down with them and show them your list and ask them what their thoughts are. Maybe they are completely uninvolved and are happy to write huge checks. Maybe they’ve been waiting to see how motivated you are and what you come up with before offering some opinions. Maybe they want you to go to their alma mater. You won’t know until you have a conversation.</p>
<p>My suggestion is that this conversation is your next step.</p>
<p>I have talked to them. They prefer me stay on the West coast. And I want to as well.</p>
<p>Nothing else? What would they do/say if you sat down with them and said, “I’m looking at these particular schools. Here is a list. I can tell you more about location, size, reputation, and cost. What questions do you have, what other factors should I be considering, and what are your thoughts?”</p>
<p>Would they tell you it’s entirely up to you, or would they want to be more engaged in the process?</p>
<p>If you’re not Christian, Pepperdine is not a good idea at all. The reason they want you to discuss your faith is that religion and faith are paramount there, since it’s a conservative, seriously religious school. If you’re not religious and not Christian, take it off your list.
You may add Whittier and University of Redlands for matches. As a reach, you have Pitzer, UCSD and Whitman. You may add Occidental as a super reach along Pitzer.
However the major you want is very specific and may only be offered (whether as kinesiology, exercise science, or sports medicine) at a few schools. Would you rather attend a school in SoCal even if it doesnt have your major, or a school anywhere on the West Coast that has your major? Right now, if you want to expand your list, that’s what you should decide.
However as many pointed out, you have plenty as it is.</p>
<p>I mean people usually end up changing their majors but I dont think I will… So I am trying to attend a school with my major. Staying on the west coast is just a preference because I dont think I would enjoy the weather anywhere else. But I’m happy to hear that my list is near complete!</p>
