Really Yale, Really?

T26E4,
With all due respect, I think the point she was making that it is hard to say how great a student is at the age of 15, with 3 more years of HS ahead of him.

Anyway, I agree with Bay, that this article must be a distortion of the facts on many counts. Stats probably has it right- the coach got a little too punchy about it all. And the journalist may have misundertstood (I mean, why would a kid commit somewhere without a scholarship?!!!)

As to the AI, I am not in the know about the rules. How many years of grades must it contain? Is the AI set by the NCAA or the Ivy? Is it by team? By class? By year recruited? By player?

And so on.

I cant imagine this kid having any academic credentials three years ahead of time if he is currently starting 10th grade (there are people out there that go early to college but it sounds like the goal is still 2014 which means he can not be one of those super achievers).

From what I understand, the coaches can not contact an athlete until the summer after junior year. The athlete on the other hand can contact a coach.

He hasn’t even been admitted to Yale yet. He has verbally committed to Yale - that is non-binding and dependant on his being admitted to the school. He still has to get good grades/ class rank and a decent SAT score. The Ivy League is an athletic conference, after all.

Wow T26E4 - that was a bit harsh. If you read what I said, I do recognize “athletes bring a lot to the school including time management skills, discipline, etc.” I’ll be the first to admit that my athletics helped me when I was an applicant and gave me skills that helped me succeed. My point was that with so many well qualified kids with 3.5 years of high school record to show and so few slots, I find it hard to believe this kid already has a slot in a future class. My D is very happily enrolled at a peer institution so I do comprehend that he is not competing with her. I agree with performersmom that this story must be distorted. If this kid is a sophomore, it’s just too early given NCAA rules for anything official.

One can have an opposing opinion without such a belligerent tone.

Seriously “momof2kids”? this kid is good enough to play Hockey for Yale. It’s a private school, the can let whoever they want in.

None of those other kids are qualified enough to fill this slot.

momof2kids: i apologize. Reading back, it was harsh what I wrote. I’m sorry. And i admit there seems to be way too many holes in the article.
