Recent Changes to the Parent Forum

We have been reading your comments, and will take this opportunity to clear a few misconceptions and explain some of our limitations in organizing the forum.

First and foremost, one of the main activities of the moderators is to move threads to their appropriate sections and edit the titles that reflects the contents of the posts. Despite not always being visible to the naked eye, we cannot stress enough how often such actions are needed. We also consider that such edits and reorganization are largely responsible for the success of our forums as this type of organization is essential in a dynamic forum of linear conversations.

As far as organizing the threads by dates, the basic tenet of CC is that the most recent and most active threads remain on top of the forum. While we can stick a thread. the order of the stickied threads will remain subject to the last activity. This feature is also natural as older and inactive threads will slowly move to the bottom of the pages.

Further, when organizing a new forum, as was stated previously. we look at the current participation as well as the future participation. When regrouped in the new forum, we viewed the listing of threads listed below to be confusing. For instance, Parents of the Class of 2017 could be either a HS or a college class. We still believe that it will be easier for someone to quickly find the relevant annual thread by scanning the dates when placed in a consistent location.

This reorganization is not finished yet. There are threads that could be added or merged, and some present specific challenges, especially when extremely large. On such example was in the form of the original HS 2010 thread.

Our main objective is to create easily identifiable and well defined threads. We understand the request to add the term “beyond” to a particular year, but that addition creates ambiguity in the new general organization. Accordingly, we will not revert to the previous titles, and will not add the term “beyond.” One solution that will be explored is to remove the College Class year and focus on the HS graduation.

Lastly, we hope that the creation of a new and dedicated forum for this type of thread is a positive move. We consider this move as an attempt to showcasing such threads as opposed to relegating them in the depths of our general community. This community now appears directly and prominently on the first page of the forums. and is just one click away. We firmly believe that the specific threads will be easier to locate in a separate forum than in the general Parents’ forum.

Thank you.
