Cat puked on wool rug…probably yesterday (under a table). Quick clean up using dawn dish washing liquid and a scrubbrush.

Okay, since every carpet in our house can be approached from two directions, I have never worried about minor differences in color. I do have one silk oriental which looks good both right side up and upside down. (Darker and more like needlepoint upside down.)

A lot of stuff does better if you let it dry before you try to clean it up–wetting it down just works it into the fibers.
All our rugs are wool and they all clean up nicely, using dish detergent, lots of clean white towels (colors may leach dye and therefore stain) and a vacuum. Spot Shot is basically a petroleum distillate and dissolves all kinds of stuff, but at the expense of massively annoying fumes (that said, I’ve used it from time to time). However, if you call a commercial rug cleaner, they may be able to use an anti-stain treatment (such as ScotchGuard) on the rug.

Dmd, the active ingredient in SpotShot is not hydrocarbons - it is 2-butoxyethanol. It is water-miscible, while hydrocarbons aren’t. Petroleum distillates are used in some cleaners, like ss cleaners, and they surely stink - way more than SpotShot. . :)

BB: thanks, the formula for SpotShot must have changed since my first dog was a puppy… ten years ago. I used it once, and never again. Nearly passed out from inhaling the fumes.

Jym…so are you saying that folks who sit on one side of your room will get the “good view” of this rug…but folks on the other side will get the " bad view"?

Yes, but don’t tell that to her inlaws-it’s her little secret every year at Thanksgiving.

Just kidding. :D

Some people like the “light” side and others prefer the “dark side.” It’s not a good/bad thing necessarily. I recently bought a beautiful rug for D2’s main living area. She prefers that the “light side” shows when you walk into the room, while I thought the “dark side” was prettier. It’s subjective.

Yes- different views from different directions.
