<p>IIRC its about a 5 hr drive, maybe 5 1/2, to St Simons from Atlanta.</p>
<p>You can also fly to Brunswick, GA or even Jacksonville.</p>
<p>Jacksonville is much more affordable to fly from than Savannah (and definitely cheaper, and more flight options than Brunswick), and you should hopefully be able to get a direct flight. Its a little less convenient, but more cost effective.</p>
<p>I have heard that Jacksonvilee is a cheaper option than Savannah but so far that has not been the case for us :(</p>
<p>bluejay, I’ve heard from several people that Savannah was the less expensive option so I think that your experience isn’t unusual. As I said, it’s a lovely airport. </p>
<p>Have a great trip! We love the beautiful coastal island areas of SC and Georgia and feel so fortunate to have a place there.</p>
<p>Bluejay: you can fly in and out of Charleston too. I believe Southwest and JetBlue are the two main carriers.</p>
<p>Not much chatter here about Charleston, but you have lots of options in that area. Isle of Palms is about 20 minutes from Downtown Charleston proper and includes the Wild Dunes resort. 20 minutes south of Charleston is Kiawah Island.</p>
<p>I’ve been to all three places you listed. Love Charleston & HHI, Savannah was eh. I’m glad we went but I see no reason to go back. I’d avoid HHI during the golf tournament, but recommend the Omni Hilton Head resort if you don’t want to rent a condo. Stayed there in October.</p>
