Thanks, all, for your replies! My D ended up insisting on the red-eye, so as to miss less school. She will still miss all of Friday, but that cannot be helped.

Red-eye and sleep some on the plane. Two lay-overs will wear you down.

I love JetBlue. They do allow one bag free, if she decides she wants to pack a bag. You said she’d be using the MBTA so I assume she is flying into Boston - it is chilly here in the evenings in October, so she’ll want a fleece or hoodie.

If her friend can give her directions via the T (the subway part of the MBTA) she can do that - there is a blue line T station at Logan (have to take a bus to get there from the terminal) or Silver Line busses run from Logan to South Station, where she could pick up the T’s Red line. Either way, Boston’s subway system is fairly simple. Only 4 main lines, all color coded: Red, Blue, Green and Orange. Much easier than NYC.

Or she could take a cab, which would be easy but costlier (I’d guess about $20? The cabs have to go thru the tunnels and that alone is about a $5 charge, which gets included in the cab fare).

edit: your Daughter made a good choice with the Red-eye. As HPuck said, the T shuts down by 1 am - so if her flight was late it would be hard for her friend to get to the airport to pick her up anyway.
