Hope it’s great! Get a thermometer and put it in that front door to see if it maintains temp. though–don’t know about LG but heard sometimes they don’t.
Great news @momtogkc, we also bought a counter depth LG french door fridge from Costco last year and so far, it’s great. The fact that Costco’s warranty is 2 years instead of 1 is very helpful.
Honestly, I don’t understand why counter depth refrigerators aren’t the norm instead of the exception. Those huge bulky boxes sticking way out beyond the kitchen counters are always an eyesore IMO.
Not always an eyesore. It really depends on where it is and what cabinets are on either side. When I redesigned my former kitchen, the bank of cabinets on the wall with the refrigerator had no counters so they were all deep.
@gouf78 I read the same thing about the door in door feature. I did;t really want it but that was the only model Costco had so hopefully it will work OK for us.
@joblue That si good to hear! I bought the Square Trade warranty as well so that extends Costco’s warranty to 5 years. I never buy those but with the things I read about problem refrigerators I was willing to spend the extra $120.
It’s funny, when I called my mom to ask her advice (she has remodeled two kitchens in the past 10 years) she told me she has a full size refrigerator at both houses. I had no idea even though I spend a week at her cottage in the summer and another week at our house at Christmas! I had her take pictures and couldn’t believe that I never noticed, especially in the cottage because it is tiny and the living area is all one big room so you see the kitchen all day. I guess once you get used to it it doesn’t bother you so much. I still didn’t want it for my kitchen but I will miss having the extra space.
That extra space is the key. There is a need for a refrigerator to fit a width and often a height so adding the depth constraint as well means extra engineering. Reminder to all- best to plan a kitchen with flexibility for this appliance- no need for built in looks! Decades later it has had an impact for many.
Actually I like the counter depth because it’s easier to find things. In the full depth refrigerator we had before leftovers got lost.
I was worried about losing the extra space when switching to counter depth, then I realized that the back of the refrigerator was filled with jars of pickles, olives and condiments that were all almost empty! No need to hang on to that stuff anymore. Eat that last piece of pepperoncini and be done with it!
I heard a kitchen designer once who said “nothing good is happening in the back 6 inches of your refrigerator”.
I was somewhat concerned about capacity when we switched from a regular depth side by side fridge (which I always hated) but have found that the design is so much more efficient in the counter depth one we have that there is no problem whatsoever… I also found that the bins in the door are much bigger than in the old fridge so we keep all condiments, salad dressings, pickles etc in the doors which also makes them much harder to forget about.
