Register to vote where you'll live for college?

My son is looking forward to registering to vote in his new state, where he’ll be attending college. It makes sense to me; I don’t think he’ll be moving back here after college.

My D registered in the state where she attended college. Because it was a very political campus, it was exciting to vote over there. However, it really helped when we ran into problems with the jury duty folks over here. In our state, people seem to get called every five minutes or so if they haven’t served recently. She needed either a utility bill (which she did not have since she lived in a dorm) or proof of voter registration to convince our state she did not primarily live here. She was never called to jury duty in her college state. Almost immediately after graduation, she received a summons again over here and went. I never did figure out how they knew when she graduated.

My kids always got absentee ballots from our town & voted that way. Fortunately they were responsible enough to think of doing it themselves!
