Rejected because missing a class?

Hi guys.

I have a 3.89 GPA and have completed all major requirements. I’ve been rejected from UCLA & UCSD for aerospace engineering, and UCB for nuclear engineering.

I initially believed that it was because the selection process was just too selective, but I called UCSD and they said it was because I was missing a class from the social sciences/ arts & humanties.

Do you think UCLA has the same reasoning behind my rejection? (I called, but they requested I email)

Also, I dropped my comm. class (without W, and also not reported in UC app) because i had the opportunity to enroll in a chemistry student independent study dealing with the design and optimization of a PEM fuel cell. How should I put this in my appeal?

Thanks

Ucla appeal deadline is over, probably the same for ucsd and ucsb too

Edit: As randy is a transfer student (i hope) his deadlines have not yet passed. (some haven’t even begun). Well, you should first find out if that’s the case you were rejected. If you don’t have the required classes, maybe it would be possible to indicate you would take it over the summer? Also are you transferring from a CC or an university. I’m not too familiar with what admissions are looking for in appeals from transfer students, but I would assume that they would still like new and compelling information not previously mentioned in your app. I’m not too sure you should just talk about taking/not taking classes.

I am wondering if this is a transfer student?

I apologize. I am a transfer student from a california community college.

I have not emailed them yet; I’m not sure exactly what to write. If the GE class is the case,
then I’m not sure how to word it in my appeal that it is possible for me to take a summer class, because I don’t want it to sound like a negotiation.

As long as you have taken at least one GE course, then you will meet the 7-course pattern for UCLA (assuming you completed the 2 English courses and took all the necessary major prep for Engineering). So I don’t think that one missing course was the reason why you didn’t get in. UCLA Engineering is competitive. Aerospace Engineering is a very small major, so I imagine it’s quite impacted.

I did not take a GE; I went straight to my major courses and completed all that was listed on assist.org. I suppose I misread the articulation agreement.

I also do understand that my major is very selective, but would like a confirmation that “I was automatically denied entrance because of the GE class” as said by a counsellor.

Thank you for your responses.

Well, if you didn’t take at least one GE, then you aren’t UC-eligible. They might not have even looked at your application because you didn’t meet the minimum eligibility.

No worries, because its not a negotiable item. The UC system is very clear that you must complete the 7-course pattern by spring. See [Deadlines for completing courses | UC Admissions](http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/transfer/requirements/deadlines-courses/index.html)

I’m sorry to hear what happened to you. Looks like you’ll have to spend another year at your CC if you want to go to a UC campus. If you go that route, I strongly suggest meeting with a xfer counselor to make sure you meet all the requirements. Also look into the TAG program which will guarantee admission to one of the participating UC campuses.

I got into UC Davis…
