Rejected fom UCSD and Confused

I believe I read somewhere that OOS is about 4,000

Thanks everyone for all the support! It was my first rejection and I think I was mostly just really surprised given the students I know who have gone there previous years. All the UCs are of course exceptionally competitive and growing more and more so. As luck would have it I’ve been accepted to several wonderful liberal arts schools which are better fits for me with generous merit based scholarships and so I won’t try to appeal at UCSD.

“I believe I read somewhere that OOS is about 4,000.”

I, on the other hand, believe that you just made up that number.

In the 2011 - 2012 school year, OOS is 697. International students is 1,511

"I think my stats are really awesome. I have some friends who have 4.5 and high SAT. They got accepted, but they have NO extracurricular stuff going on. They can’t even look you in the face and carry on a conversation because they are so “freaky geeky”

What arrogance. Denigrating your friends who got in does not help your case. Just make you an a**hole.

Maybe the admission officer saw the arrogance and a**holeness in your application.

Who knows if this is true or not, but I read somewhere that UCSD is having trouble with the holistic approach to admission and is considering switching back to point-based admission.

I got rejected from UC Santa Barbara and when I called up and asked, they said I was rejected because I was over-qualified for UCSB although my SAT was only a 1730 (I am an international student and I do British A Levels so I do not have a GPA)
