I’m sorry that you didn’t get into your first choices. However, people would give their eyeteeth to have gotten into any of the 3 schools that you did. I hope that after you sleep on your results, you’ll wake up happy about the marvelous options that you have.

Not that it helps a lot this far into the admission season, but if rowing is really important to you, why wasn’t picking more schools with rowing teams that you are competitive for a bigger part of your college search? At a minimum, it would let you narrow down schools to consider for their academic fit and geographic constraints. I’d guess at this point you’re either going to need to fall ‘in-like’ with one of the wonderful schools you’ve been admitted to, or consider a gap year and reapplying now that you better understand your priorities.

Wisco has a really good ltwt crew team.

“I want to congratulate all the posters replying on this board for biting their tongues.”

Yeah, really. Especially to the “royally screwed over” thoughts.

OP, take a deep breath, take 24 hours to mourn what you didn’t get, and then start counting your lucky stars for what you DID get, 'cause there are sure gonna be a lot of kids out there who aren’t going to have the fabulous options to choose from that you do. Congratulations and good luck.

What a dramatic title. I thought this was andi’s story 2.0…

If you go to JHU, you could join the Baltimore Rowing Club, which is a popular organization for any level of the sport. It is a well known organization in the area.

Some of the highschools also offer crew. Maybe you could coach?

Baltimore is pretty neat in spite of some of the things you hear. It is NOT DC, but you can visit easily!

I don’t mean to just dismiss you as being a drama queen here but after reading the title and then the first few lines of your post I must say you really just need to take a deep breath and recognize that you got accepted to some very good schools… schools which many others won’t get in to.

ttparent, why would lightweight crew be thought to be less serious than heavyweight crew? “Light” refers to the weight of the rowers, not their commitment. It’s just a weight class.

I think once you settle down and look at your choices, you will realize that you are good shape. Congratulations on your great acceptances! It’s a nerve racking time, and it’s not unusual to be looking at things skewed. Most of the world thinks you are in a wonderful position.

I like the suggestion for eating some ice cream!! That sounds like just the thing!!!

OP, have some ice cream! (And I hope you’ll share!
)

Very glad it wasn’t another andison story! I had worries that it might be, though, from the title.

Just dust it off and move on. They don’t deserve you.

Do something productive with your life.

So, go to Hopkins.

So, do something productive this summer. Make it your mission to find sponsors to replace the lost funding for crew.

Here’s what ClassicRockerDad posted yesterday in response to a very disappointed young woman. I think I’m going to post this on my refrigerator so that whenever I get into a “class half empty” frame of mind I can remember that there are always at least two ways to look at anything.

“I’m very sorry, but even though you are a nice girl, you are going to have to disappoint at least 2 of the 3 schools that you’ve been accepted to. You still may hear from others and have to disappoint even more of them. While all 3 are outstanding schools and all 3 deserve to have a student of your caliber, at least 2 of them are simply not going to make the cut and get you to go there. You can only go to 1 school. I know that you will choose carefully and wisely and politely let those that you reject down easy. Congratulations on a job well done!”

Congratulations on your acceptances. No matter where you end up going, by this time next year you won’t be able to imagine going to any other college.

I am not so nice but will refrain.

You are hereby, FLAMED.
Never, ever compare your self to someone else. It is self defeating. You do not know the circumstances of the other. It is demeaning to you and to them.

This thread is disgusting. Open your eyes OP, you have some excellent schools you’ve been accepted to. Adapt and move on, it will be a skill that you will have to learn to survive.

You were accepted to some awesome schools. Badmouthing your peers, especially a FRIEND, is not a healthy way to deal with your rejections.

To everyone who responded, thank you so much. I read this this morning and realized what a brat I was. Sure I’m still disappointed but I’m going to see how my last two admissions play out. Again, many thanks to everyone.

Good for you, sax. Growth usually comes a teeny tiny step at a time. I’d say you took a giant step overnight.

Sax-- I am really impressed with your last post. Of course it is disappointing not to be accepted everywhere (my son is dealing with the waitlist limbo at three schools so far too–including JHU!), and cc is the perfect place for a little venting. Good luck in whatever choice you make!
