Thumper, here is what I got without discounts.

Rental cost (payable at the rental location) €198.00
Price includes CITY SURCHARGE, Additional Liability Insurance (ALI), Unlimited Miles, TRNSP FEE 7 DAY MAX, Local Tax and Collision Damage Waiver (CDW).

The midsize is 5 Euros more. Same price for your five days or seven days. Note it includes all fees AND the CDW. Why is it priced in Euros? I routinely check the prices at Budget in …Ireland. For some unknown reason, they often have very low all-inclusive offers. And it has always worked and often with an upgrade. The CDW is a bargain in Europe when included. Otherwise I use the Amex Primary coverage for 20 dollars per trip. Relying on the free CC coverage is a mixed bag.

The Euro is about 1.10 today. You might be able to prepay and have it confirmed.

Did you try comparison shopping with vroomvroomvroom.com?

I just checked the daily rate there for my next trip, and wowza! So glad I can use public transit.

I called Budget today, and even the agent said the prices were ridiculously high. He suggested waiting a couple of weeks. He said prices do reset.

Funny, I have a discount case for Budget at the bottom of the screen. I think I’ll try it!

Bumping this thread 'cause I didn’t pay attention before. Thumper, try discounts through AAA and/or AARP and see what you come up with.

AAA is the same cost. I’m not a member of AARP…can’t stand getting spammed by them via snail mail.
