Renters Insurance for off campus apt

After reading this thread, I bought insurance for my D (off campus condo) and my S (dorm) from CSI. Even though S is covered by our policy, our deductible is higher than the premium I am paying CSI. With all the electronic stuff my kids have, breakage or theft are real possibilities. I figure it’s better to pay a modest premium than to wish I had coughed up the money when it’s too late.

S is now in apartment, no longer in dorm, now a graduate student at same university as UG (in state where we live). His lease required him to carry renter’s insurance (apartment second floor in owner occupied house). He also has instruments which have been covered under our homeowner’s policy, with a provision for professional usage. The renter’s policy is not high enough to include the rider for his instruments. However, the agent said that because we support him, his instruments can stay on our homeowner’s rider, and this is documented in the policy. Talk to your agent…they frequently can find a way to help.

You can get a very cheap renter’s insurance policy for him - and very important. There’s an info site with a lot of helpful articles about all aspects of renter’s insurance if you need more help - [Compare Renters Insurance Quotes - RentersInsurance.org](http://www.rentersinsurance.org) . Hope that helps :)
