Repeated course GPA for UC/CSU

My son taking one AP course from UC Scout, its a two semester course. He is doing first semester this summer, will do semester 2 in the fall.

Since the semesters are split between Summer and Fall, he may not get full credit for the AP class unless it is completed by early Fall prior to application submission. For UC GPA calculation purposes only course grades from the summer after 9th to the summer prior to 12th are included.

Thank you so much for clarifying this! Mine is a rising junior right now so this AP would count. But he was thinking of doing the same thing next summer, and now i understand that’s not such a good idea.

The UC will also allow students to repeat a C- letter grade.

Incorrect. According to the UC application guide, only D’s and F’s in A-G courses can be repeated. The UC’s do not consider -/+ grades when self reporting so how would they know the student got a C- and repeated vs. a C until the final transcripts are sent.

See page 18 of the guide: https://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/_files/documents/quick-reference-guide-to-uc-admissions.pdf

Also listed on this matrix which indicates only D’s and F’s can be repeated for the A-G courses and on this UC Counselor presentation.
