Repeating Grade Just to have more years at prep school

repeaters at many schools do so to gain an advantage, part of the parents’ propping up the repeater for college admissions. colleges recognize this, and may allow one year repeats. however, two year repeats, where the repeaters are 20 years old as high school seniors applying to college, are penalized severely by colleges. these repeaters have a huge advantage over younger students in the same grade, and the colleges know this. 19-20 year old high school seniors, with a huge age gap in high school compared with 99% of college applicants, have really accomplished nothing other than a strategy that anyone could use. the repeater cannot compete with his own age group and colleges know this is a subterfuge. this strategy is done almost always in private schools, with the repeater’s paying full tuition. colleges do not favor this additional wealth driven propping up of the repeater.
