If my windows open and close fine I am wondering if I could just do the glass. Forgive all these really basic questions -but does a window company usually do that? Or a glass company? I am concerned about asking someone to come out for an estimate and having an experience like @notrichenough
@veruca - do your current windows tilt in? If so you can probably take the whole sash out and take it to a glass place.
If not, take pictures and measurements, and call or go to a glass place and talk to them. They will tell you what they can do. They can get pretty much everything, even insulated glass like a double pane sealed unit.
I had the glass in a sliding door replaced after a deer jumped through it. It wasn’t even that expensive IIRC.
Call a few independent glass and window replacement companies and get quotes. That’s what we did. They send in a guy to do the assessment and pre-measurements for a quote, then you pick whoever you think is the better co, pay a deposit, and then they send in a guy or a gal to do the actual measurements. In a few weeks or even days (if your glass is in stock), you will have your windows fixed. With vinyl windows, the panels can be popped out and replaced.
Re: guarantee for life…we have Peachtree windows which we love…also guaranteed for life…until the company she totally out of business. But still windows are great and we’re state of the art before their time. Put in 1994…argon between the panes, and a UV filter glass. Very tight…and look great. Vinyl clad on the outside and wood on the inside.
I hope we never need to replace them…maybe the next owner can do that.
In our former house, DH replaced all of the windows…fully…not replacements but full new windows. I don’t remember the brand, but the job was time consuming…but not onerous for him. We replaced all of the windows…because we wanted them to look the same from the outside…and the newer ones…looked different. It made a huge difference in our comfort especially in the winter.
Thanks!!!
I have Peachtree double hung windows that were installed in house built in 1989. 4 of the windows no longer will
stay up when opened. Low E , vinyl outside ,wood inside. I haven’t been able to find parts to repair; anyone have any ideas? Do I need to replace ?
Does this help?

This site claims they sell replace sashes for peachtree windows, if you want to go that route.
Thank You! I did measure the lower sash as instructed, and submitted the form. I have a few questions; will ask when I get a reply.
