Yale’s commitment to need blind admissions has been extant since the late 1960s – long before the current economic downturn or their unbelievable recent endowment growth ($4B to $22B in about 15 years). I seem to recall Pres. Levin saying that the Y Corporation said that more endowment revenue needed to be spent (to deflate the expanding pot of cash! What a problem to have!). Last report was that the endowment grew roughly $4B in 2007. This compares with the $86M financial aid budget. Still a drop in the bucket frankly.

The monstrous boosting of FA budget won’t be affected by current financial situations, I’d bet. Therefore, the admissions office won’t feel any pressure to shade back from being need-blind admissions. My two cents.
