Residency comes next

COMLEX level 1 is now P/F–just like USMLE Step 1 is p/f.

The general consensus is that program directors are using Step 2/Level 2 score as a screener instead of Step 1/Level scores. (They did that last year too when they started getting large numbers of applicants without a Step 1/Level 1 score.)

Residency candidate ranking methods vary from program to program and specialty to specialty–just as they always have.

Since many med school have eliminated AOA recognition, AOA status is becoming less important for candidate screening/ranking..

Top programs are pretty much ignoring signaling since so many candidate use (waste?) one of their limited signals on them. They already know they are a desirable program; candidates don’t need to tell them that.

:crossed_fingers:t2::crossed_fingers:t2::crossed_fingers:t2::crossed_fingers:t2:for those interviewing for residency spots.

Residency is not next for DS, he is going for MD/MBA.

Apparently, in some cases, the Match is more of a pro forma event. The “love letters” remove all the suspense.

Love letters are not to be trusted.

Some programs send them to everyone they interview.

“This week, the ACGME suddenly withdrew their accreditation for the Crozier-Chester general surgery residency program under special circumstances.”

I believe Drexel students might be rotating through here for surgery. One of the current IM applicants mentioned rotating there.

More info here:

I hope all the current residents find training programs willing to accept them.

Good luck!

On a side note, I thought politics were not allowed on CC. I am way behind times!

technically if D1 is licensed in CA, the license does say “Physician and Surgeons.”

A politics forum was created a while ago. So far, so good, but of course moderation helps keep things civil (I hope!).

Matched! No surprise.

Looking forward to hearing where she matched. I hope she gets her first choice🤞🏻

Best of luck to anyone in the residency match this year. Please please do share, if you want to!

Not the specific place, but just that your student matched!

Wishing luck to all of those trying to match this year. My daughter is a long way from the match process but just reading about it online is stressful so I try not to look too often. I hope everyone gets what they want.

There were five of us who had kids who matched in 2020 (the year of no medical school graduations). All women, all different specialties, and all landed where they wanted to be. It was an exciting time, for sure.

She matched to the hospital where she and husband live and where she did most of her rotations. Family medicine. It’s all good.

That’s great. How come I thought match day was Friday?

Match Week takes place the third week of March, from Monday 10 am ET – Friday 12 pm ET. For 2024, Match Week takes place Monday, March 11th – Friday, March 15th. Students find out Monday morning whether or not they matched; however, they don’t hear where they matched until Friday of the same week

All I know is what she told me!
