Rest in peace Barbara Bush

Wonderful lady. I had the pleasure of meeting her while she was First Lady.

Hopefully now she’s with her daughter Robin who she lost many decades ago. Imagine the reunion!
RIP

I have read different stories about her strained relationship with her mother that may have led to the mean girl story above (which I’ve not heard before). I read both her books and in the second one I thought she was a bit hateful to Jim & Susan Baker in one of her comments, despite how devoted they were and continued to be to 41 and to her. Like all of us, she had flaws, but she was essentially a good person who was fiercely devoted to her husband and her family. I have always appreciated her devotion to literacy. I loved her, even though I didn’t idolize her.

For a poor Asian immigrant family, President and Barb were very nice people as we benefitted a lot from their generosity. Rest in peace. Our prayers and thought for President Bush and his family.

RIP, Mrs. Bush.

Even if the negative characterization of Mrs. Bush as a teen is true, I think it’s a shame to dwell on it now since it clearly doesn’t reflect the adult she became. I cringe to think of many things I said and did as a teenager and would be mortified, or hurt, if anyone dredged them up years later.

I will miss seeing her sitting behind home plate at the Houston Astros’ games. She was also a supporter of many local charities including Star of Hope Mission. She was smart and funny. In a time when we are divided, she was refreshing because she was exactly who she wanted to be. I remember when her husband ran for president and they wanted her to lose weight, to color her hair, and to stop dressing with fake pearls. She politely said…no.

I know she said the pearls were fake, but I don’t believe it.

I believe the fashionistas prefer the term “faux” or “simulated.”

No doubt she had natural pearls is her jewelry box, but the iconic three-strand necklace is Kenneth Jay Lane.

RIP Barbara.

I always wondered why she appeared to be much older than GHWB when they were in the White House. I read yesterday that her hair turned white prematurely following the death of her baby daughter Robin. Don’t know if I could have been strong enough to weather the stress and sadness.

I read the Vanity Fair article mentioned above, it’s from 2007. It’s vety long, but quite interesting. It discusses many aspects of her life, even how hard it was for her to age so much faster than her husband. There was another reference that, although she was a good person, she wasn’t necessarily a nice person. Someone else said she became more human after her daughters death. I respect her for her loyalty to family. It also mentions how she butt heads with the Republican Party as she was pro-choice. An extremely interesting woman, indeed.

I have such admiration for anyone who loves and treasures both her marriage and her family as much as Mrs. Bush did.

RIP Barbara Bush.
