Restaurants for Graduation--DC Foodies Recommendations?

This probably isn’t an option because you probably want to stay in the beltway but Volt run by Bryan Voltaggio is about 45 minutes away. No chance you’ll pick it but if you are looking for a really good place to eat outside the Beltway run by someone who was the runner-up of Top Chef you should check it out.
Hubby and I went to Vidalia last night. Boy was that fantastic! It’s a southern style restaurant with a tasting menu. It’s a beautiful restaurant on the lower level so if you have any disabled people, might be tough getting them down there.

Decor was lovely, service was fabulous and the food was absolutely delicious. You choose a cold appetizer, hot appetizer, seafood course, meat course and dessert. It was hard to even have to choose. The short ribs and shrimp and grits were just amazing. I had doughnuts for dessert with dipping sauce! May be one of my favorite restaurants now.

DH had been there for the lunch specials during Restaurant Week and raved, so he and I went there in January for a Restaurant Week dinner. YUM.

We’ve eaten at Blacksalt several times and loved each meal…Very interesting, predominately seafood, fare and always outstanding service. Relaxed, sophisticated but casual atmosphere

At least for me, it’s definitely better than other Italian restaurants I tried in DC. I recommend the filet mignon (I like balsamic reduction better but others may like blueberry better). It’s so tender that even a plastic knife would cut it easily.
