Resume Embellishment

The OPs post reminds me of last year.

Last year my school had a student who was actually quite good in most
things who embellished his record quite a bit. Eventually qute a few of his
classmates found out about it and his last name became synonymous with
embellishment on the college app to the point is was used as a verb
“…why don’t you ***** your resume?”

I always thought he was good without his embellishments. He was waitlisted
at the big H and almost made it in…but did not. He is at a top LAC now.
I always like to think there was balance in the force and though he got past the
fact checkers at the big H, he did not make it because of the dark path
he had chosen.

Dueling with the dark side is ingrained in what we do. We need to be careful
about the choices we have to live with and value ourselves more than the
colleges we want to study in. Why would I want to study somewhere
where I was not respected for exactly who I am?

—:)—

Lying about hours or # of occasions: not a lotta difference
Lying about an activity you didn’t do: can be verified and can make a difference.

well, i just faxed them over a new, cleaned up resume…hope that’ll take care of it…thanks for the advice everyone
