Retake the ACT for 1 more point?

@SaphireNY GPA is probably around a 3.7 unweighted.

A low reading will really affect me even with an average of 33 in the other three categories?

Regardless I’m going to work all I can to try and get at least the reading score up.

And I understand what you are saying about the science. I think I just got pretty lucky, and not sure if I can replicate that next time.

Going up by a point is a reasonable goal.
Taking it later Junior year will probably help your score.

I would say to go for it…if it gives you better scholarship possibilities and if you parents who are paying the bill are asking you to do this…do it.

I think its worth it. I have a 33 and retaking it for a 34

First is a 26 at least at the 50th% of the schools you want? If it is then you should be fine since the rest are at or over the 75%. If you can try to get to a 28 without significiantly dropping in anything else. Even if that is still a 31 or 32 it is split better. I went from a 32 to 34 and my GC said it bumped me up a category in terms of schools I could apply to realistically. I think the high science score may help counteract the low reading. I have no experience with what AdComs are really thinking.

@billcsho don’t colleges value the English and the Math the most? On all of the CDS’s, they give specific data on those two sections. Those are the two that correlate with the SAT’s reading and math; which is maybe what you are confusing

@hsalem32 For competitive schools, you need to aim for all sections scores above 30.

You can look here and see what large scholarships there are at various levels of ACT score:
