Retaking classes at Berkeley, replaces previous grade or not?

<p>On the DARS LEGEND it says classes labeled with a “>X” is a duplicate course and no GPA, no units are awarded and classes labeled with “!!” is a duplicate of a deficient grade-GPA & units count. So is it safe to say that classes you retake do replace the previous grade? Have pasted the DARS LEGEND below and bolded the labels I mentioned.</p>

<p>Still I have the question of whether or not D’s are considered a failing grade and should classes with D’s be retaken? I’m not planning on doing grad school. But how would future employers look at it?</p>
