@greenwitch, my parents are immigrants from Asia. I’m not sure I’m interested in a dual citizenship with that country. I wish I had other options.
@GTalum Australia is attractive and many Brits retire there, but it is important to note that if you are over 55 you cannot obtain permanent residence but rather only renewable residence permits. And the minimum income and savings requirements are getting stiffer. Sadly, purchasing property no longer gives you residence rights as Australia has suspended its investor visa program.
@Singersmom07 There was a story in the UK press about a couple whose business failed after 10 years and they were told to leave the country as they had failed to become NZ citizens in the interim.
Not retiring… but good friends of mine just rented their house (for $5,000/mo !!) and are flying to southern Europe to buy a small boat. They plan to sail/motor it throughout the Mediterranean and along Europe’s rivers for at least the next year, if not more. Sigh. I’ll miss them but am impressed.
People fantasize about this sort of thing… but don’t act on it very often. I’m now planning to visit them on some Greek island within the next few months.
Also, many countries in Asia restrict multiple citizenship for their citizens.
There also seems to be increasing anti-immigrant (particularly non-European) sentiment there, including in the Parliament.
MODERATOR’S NOTE:
Let’s keep politics out of this please, as per ToS. Giving a statement of fact. like Australia has a new PM" is fine. Giving an opinion like “Australia’s new PM will result in moral turpitude” is not.
