Props to evilasiandictator.

Affirmative action is just bull. It helps everyone except asians. They say it doesn’t help whites, but if it hurts asians especially Chinese, it is making the field less competitive for whites.

I don’t buy that bull about affirmative action helping people who have suffered in the past. My mother’s side was considered “bourgeois” since my grandfather had a brother who escaped to Taiwan and criticized China, which forced to my mother’s side to be extremely poor as punishment for being “anticommunist”. My grandfather was forced to declare his “crimes” each day on paper and work in the icy fields of harbin. My father came from a chinese farm (without luxuries like electricity) and grew up herding pigs and reading books in the same time. He frequented the local library and studied mathematics, physics, and chemistry (shulihua), by himself while others smoked and played cards. When Mao died in 1976, he was able to go to college and was given a full scholarship to America after 4 years. I am the son of these people.

While I do not mind the fact that affirmative action exists helps only underrepresented minorities, I find it disgusting is that Americans claim they do this to help “historically impoverished cultures” and openly discriminate against people who are born to true poverty. I doubt the suffering of most blacks in America can compare with the suffering of the Chinese during the cultural revolution, especially since people in 1960-1961 could not even eat in China because of a nationwide famine.

Rather than AA, just use something based on economic background and preferrably not just the year before college. Include all 18 years of life before college, which would drastically help me since my dad worked as an associate professor for 10 years (not a high paying job).
