Revisit Day dates for 2020?

@hurryslowly
Congrats and agree about the Mesa. Every time I am on campus I get a little jealous that it’s my kiddo’s place. ?

Agree about the website. ?

Lville revisits have now been cancelled as well.

Does it make sense to RSVP your “revisit” date, even if the school hasn’t announced yet and the school hasn’t indicated that they’re cancelled yet?

I just did, but I felt it a little obvious to add a comment in the “notes” section that we might not be able to make it due to Covid-19.

Mercersburg also just cancelled (and postponed spring break return by 2 weeks).

Hotchkiss also canceled :frowning: They’re hosting a virtual tour (for each family) though

I know that the revisit days at Andover at the very least are cancelled due to COVID-19. I am 90% sure that that includes every school in the 10 schools league (DA, SPS, CHOATE, ETC.)

I have to wonder if virtual revisits will be cancelled with no students on campus at most schools. Or, are they going to do virtual revisits with just a few faculty and an empty campus?

Or, maybe the boarding schools could all decide to postpone response day to, say May 10th, and hope that school is back in session in April?

It bums me out about revisits being cancelled. We loved and needed them.

Sounds weird because all schools we visited felt special, but Cate in particular needs to be visited to “get”. There is something different about the air itself there. Maybe it is because of being up on a mesa, how ”bubble-ish” it is, or the view of the ocean. The environment has a direct impact on the community, and the community is either your kind of vibe or it isn’t. There is no way to capture the air on a website.

@CateCAParent
I agree 100%. I think a school like Cate is hurt by no revisits. The few times I have been on campus make me feel a sense of calm and at peace. The ocean views, the smell of the eucalyptus trees, the way the buildings fit on the Mesa. It is a special place. I’m so jealous of my child. ??

Oh, me too @msc3173, me too.

When we did our first visit to the campus (first time ever on any boarding school anywhere) kiddo turned to me and said “mom, why didn’t you tell me school could be like this?” Well, child, I had no idea it could.

Who I am really jealous of are the adults who get to live there.

Fwiw, the East Coast school we visited that sorta had a bit of the “air” vibe was NMH. We were there on a perfect fall day, with the foliage in all its glory. Amazing. So I am certain that there are other schools that are set apart by their “air” as well. It isn’t just Cate. I am just saying it is sad for schools with that air that the revisits aren’t happening.

Ugh, my own parental M18 meltdown (almost crying).

Both kids home (like most of you out there), everything cancelled (like daughter’s 1st time in a play), I’m an LPS teacher who after 22 years teaching is trying to learn a million new (for me) “online learning platforms” that work for six year old children (and learn these in DAYS), my county issued orders yesterday that no public nor private,nor business gatherings of any size are permitted enforceable by police and sheriffs, I have asthma, we are almost out of toilet paper…

…and the first “Virtual Revisit Day” is supposedly going on RIGhT NOW and I think they set up their Zoom meeting invite wrong because when I log in, it says it happened hours ago! I can’t get in. This day!

sad rant over

Has anyone out there tried virtual revisits?

Okay, their second invite (that they sent a day after the initial invite) worked better, but by the time I figured that out, we’d missed the 2/3 of the presentation :frowning: Welp, better late than never!

Hope all my CC parents are avoiding freakouts and the occasions of freakouts as best as possible.

At this point, I have at least one freakout a day. If it’s a good day, it’s after breakfast…

@LeeLeeB If you were referring to Williston’s VRD-they mentioned that it was being recorded so check their website…

@LeeLeeB I just wanted to jump in and say that I really admire and appreciate what teachers are doing on such short notice — ESPECIALLY online learning for the youngest children. You all are really going above and beyond.
