My daughter got accepted too. Anyone here from Bayarea?

My daughter (who was just accepted) was born in Berkeley, but we are in NY now. Where are you guys from?

Congrats!

Congrats! We are in Texas.
Did any accepted student hear about any Merit scholarship?

Congratulations to you guys also! I’ve heard RISD doesn’t give any merit except for YoungArts winners or Gold Medal Portfolios at Scholastics.

That stinks :frowning: My daughter is a YoungArts winner but we have not got or heard anything from RISD. Maybe they are waiting for FAFSA? We have been getting all the other accepted students emails.

Hmmm maybe call them? That’s great she is a winner! Are you guys going to visit? We are trying to decide which day.

Thanks. We still do not know. We did some school visits back in Jan (Pratt and MICA) and DD is more interested to be in New York. Honestly she got good vibes from the admission counselors from these schools unfortunately not from RISD. Could be our luck. She applied quite late to RISD. So she is still not sure if she wants to go to RISD. Nothing has been decided yet though.

Your daughter has some nice options! My daughter is considering Pratt also. She doesn’t really want to be in NYC though. I think she’ll try visiting and seeing what it’s like.

Our kid fell in love with the Brooklyn campus and the vibes. The fact that it is NYC and yet not the city and that its in a nice residential area and an enclosed ā€œrealā€ campus. Visiting does help with decisions and I am glad we did. We also visited their satellite campus in Utica. It is way smaller and very different from Brooklyn but also very personal. Small classes, but very updated facility and we got to visit multiple classrooms and the teachers during the tour. Most importantly for us Pratt Munson costs less and they finally graduate from Brooklyn. She liked the classes and the facility but was not fond of the city.
There is no doubt about RISD being the best. But they do not give much scholarship, it is not going to be possible for us to pay for it :frowning:
All the best to your kid! It is a very big decision and it feels like we soon have to make it!

Thank you for your perspectives! RISD is the only one we have visited so far and my daughter was a little disappointed they didn’t have more of a ā€œreal campusā€. It sounds like Pratt has that! My daughter is also going to visit a few non-arts schools, but I think she might end up really wanting an art school, so we will see. Good luck with everything and I’m sure your daughter will end up at a place she loves!
