Yeah, they are probably using this opportunity to kill three birds with one stone. That is 1- accommodate two freshmen classes (gap year students being freshmen) at once, 2- tap into the extra applications without damaging yield and 3- get closer to the the typical enrollment of its medium size peers (roughly 5000 to 7000 undergraduates). My guess would be that 3 was likely a long term plan that got moved forward given this unusual opportunity…
